04 Questions

Generator questions.

01 How does a standby generator work?

It is wired to your home through a transfer switch. When the power goes out, it starts on its own and supplies power until the utility restores service, then shuts itself off.

02 Can I install a standby generator myself?

No. A permanent standby generator is not a do-it-yourself project. It involves a fuel line, a transfer switch and connections to your electrical panel.

03 How often does it need service?

Like a car, an air-cooled standby generator needs regular maintenance. We recommend a service once a year.

04 Who handles the warranty?

Our factory-trained technicians meet Generac's warranty conditions. You can also call Generac at 1-888-436-3722, and register your unit at register.generac.com.

05 Do you help if the power is out on a weekend?

Yes. We offer emergency assistance 7 days a week.
